Q: Will seeds germinate is the sandy soil of Brazil faster with the help of fertilizer?

Explanation: I have four cups of sandy soil that resemble soil from Brazil. In each cup I put 40 grass seeds it along with 50ml of water. In two of the cups I added 10 ml of fertilizer to compare the effects of fertilizer on soil. Each day I water the cups with 20ml of water each and mark down how many of the 40 seeds germinated. The dependent variables are watering amounts, number of seeds, and outside influences such as temperature and sunlight. The constant variables are the fertilizer added to two of the cups. The Independent variable is the seeds growing or not growing at all. My hypothesis is that the seeds in the cup of soil without fertilizer will take longer to germinate and grow then the seeds with fertilizer. This proves that fertilizer in Brazil is necessary.

Conclusion. This experiment was based on the soil problems my country is having today. In Brazil, they have a problem with their unfertilized sandy soil in the north. This makes it hard for them to start crops and maintain their fertile area in the North. One way to fix their problems would be to add fertilizer to their soil to help germination of their crops. I would in the future add more variables then I can compare my dependent to other variables without fertilizer. It was also hard to figure out how many of my 40 seeds germinated. Sifting through the soil and counting all the seeds might of created a miscalculation. So I set up a lab to proved adding fertilizer to sandy soil can help germination. What I found was the fertilizer jump started germination after a couple of days and the soil with fertilizer had three times as many seeds growing than the soil without. This proves the even though fertilizer has negative impacts on our environment, it is still used to help germinate seeds in area that are without nutrients.
